Korakrit Arunanondchai at Kukje Gallery

Korakrit Arunanondchai's solo exhibition "Image, Symbol, Prayer" at Kukje Gallery presents a comprehensive exploration of the artist's multidisciplinary practice. Through a combination of video, performance, painting, and installation, Arunanondchai delves into the complexities of existence and meaning.

The exhibition's centerpiece, the History Paintings, are created from denim and often feature the artist's body imprint. These works are set alight and then photographed before being assembled into an object that bears the image of its own making. This process highlights the cyclical nature of creation and destruction, as well as the role of fire as a transformative force. The History Paintings are displayed on a floor made from compressed ash and clay, with a prayer text sculpted into the surface. This installation invites the viewer to consider the physicality of the artist's practice and the relationship between materiality and spirituality.

Arunanondchai's use of personal and collective experiences, life and death, and different belief systems, highlights the universality of these themes. Through the artist's exploration of these concepts, the exhibition invites the viewer to question their own understanding of existence and meaning. "Image, Symbol, Prayer" offers a powerful and thought-provoking experience that should not be missed.
